FOUR MORE DAYS...

and we get our country back.

CRISP WEATHER BRINGS OUT THE JACKETS...

and lots of great outerwear. Stuff like shrunken trenchcoats. Seen on East 13th St. in front of Parsons - between 5th and University.

OMFG. SALVATORE ROMANO FROM MAD MEN...

sent me an email.

Is that crazy or what?!

THIS IS WHY I LOVE NYC...

I just ran out to Trader Joe's - here's a guy in a pale gray tweed suit, hoodie, black hat, and Lanvin trainers.

Does that need any further explanation? I think not...

MORE DANDYISM...

COOL...

I think you can't go wrong with a sweater/shirt combo - a little bit of cuffs and the collar showing. Very French. I can't explain that but I'm sure most people reading this know what I mean.

Saw this guy on University and 13th. Just as cool as guys in 1968 in front of Le Drugstore on Saint-Germain-des-Pres (photo by Henri Cartier-Bresson)

(This is done with my new printer/scanner courtesy of the blog show I went to @ Martha Stewart. Shout out for MS. Can you see a difference in the pic?)

A DANDY EVENING...

at the Leslie-Lohman Gay Arts Center. Among the panelists, Keanan Duffty rocking an original 'Granny Takes A Trip' satin jacket. And if you don't know about 'Granny Takes A Trip', then I suggest you start reading about it stat, 'cause there was fashion before GTAT, and then everything that came after is was different.

Other panelists included Cator Sparks, Austin Scarlet, and hosted by Dandy ring leader Patrick McDonald.

More sketches to come.

SALVATORE ROMANO OF MAD MEN

...was at the Center tonight. Actually it was Bryan Batt, and he was very funny, smart and talked about his role as a closeted gay man in 1960.

Sometimes we need to stop and see how far things have progressed. Still a long way to go...

PEEJAY @ 'STAND'...

And the burgers at Stand are the shizz...

GLORIOUS FALL DAY IN NYC...

Everyone out in tweeds, wool scarves, hats...new shaped jackets. A see and be seen kind of Sunday.

LOVE THE LOOK OF THIS SITE...

Called 'Homeroom.' And a nice mention for 'WIST' too. Thanks!

Big thanks too to 'Evil Monito' and 'Trendland' for the mentions!

PEOPLE WHO HAVE THEIR LOOK DOWN: ALEXANDER WANG...

Keeps it very simple with black, white, grey knits, skinny jeans, beautifully cut motorcycle jacket. Here's where charcoal becomes a color.

Reaffirms my belief that when one is around fabric and color all day, getting the wardrobe down to a uniform is a relief.

SUSPENDERS...

The skinny kind (of course). Starting to see them around. Anyone else have a suspender sighting?

SWEDISH TV BLOG...

I couldn't figure out why I had so much traffic from Sweden. Here's the link.
Thanks Elin Kling!

LAST GASP OF SUMMER...

Shorts with sweaters. This was a group of guys (Swedish?) who were taking in the beauty of the Hudson River on one side, and the Richard Meier buildings on the other.

Watching them reminded me of what a glorious city NYC is.

WHEN THE ECONOMY TANKS...

Put on a wool stripe scarf and go for a walk in the park.

I mean, it worked in 1930. No reason why it shouldn't work today.

Photo caption 'Mode au Bois: pantelon de fourrure, beret et blouson a fermeture Eclair, vers 1930'. From DES MODES ET DES HOMMES.

(I love this couple. Who were they? How did it all play out...?)

AN ALL-TIME FAVORITE PICTURE...

From my all-time favorite book - DES MODE ET DES HOMMES. The caption is 'Le chanteur Ronny Bird minet a l'elegance beatnick, vers 1966' I mean, that's just too chic to ruin in translation.

Anyway...I was freelance designing a menswear line and came up with this jacket - kind of a take on the original, in a rich, heavy cotton moleskin. As with many start ups, the line never saw the inside of a store, but I did get this sample...

HERE'S WHAT THOSE SNEAKERS LOOK LIKE...

up close. I think they're by 'Schmoove' and Alter in Brooklyn probably carries them.

I 'HEART' NEW YORK...

The Saturday Union Square Farmers Market. The guy in the pink shirt had those pointy sneakers that took it to a whole other level.

SOME TOM FORD CHOCOLATE...

BALENCIAGA MEETS THE BEATLES...

and it works. In an un-retro way.

I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE OF MENSWEAR ADVERTISING...

and it is Claremont HD; 2 guys on skateboards in Adam Kimmel suits going down a mountain at about 75 mph - while handing off a camcorder.

BECAUSE...

We need them in the White House. Now.

UNION SQUARE - WAITING...

on the corner of 14th and University. Amazing how some people just get the proportions so right and it looks like they're not even trying.

What up with that?
