I FLIPPED WHEN I SAW THE PHOTOS

...taken by Tom Ford for his S/S '09 Menswear Collection. They have so much motion, the colors are so rich, and the model so amazing - I was dying to sketch them.
There were only 3 pictures in men.style.com/ and I wanted to see them all. A few emails later, I was pouring over the entire set of pictures and then went to my sketchbook. Here are some of the results...more to follow.

(HT to Richard and Tom for their generosity)

ONE MORE STRAND GUY

...can't forget the hoodie.

I WAS HAVING COFFEE

...with my friend Amos Poe last week and we were talking about how cool the Strand is. He had worked there many years ago - so did Patti Smith. Enough said.

I was there the other day and I realized: everything that happens in menswear starts with the guys who work there. The pallor (from being indoors all day), the lack of body fat (who can eat with all those books to read), and the artfully non-arranged look - the frayed shirt, washed out skinny jeans, the faded t shirt. All Strand.

Case in point - renderings of guys who ACTUALLY WORK THERE.

ANOTHER CDG HEART THINGEE

...sitting on a bench in front of Balthazar today, and out walks a guy in a grey cardigan (looked like cashmere) with the same heart icon that was on the L train t shirt the day before.

MORE L TRAIN. I LOVE THIS T SHIRT

...not for me, but on this guy it looked great. Comme des Garcons  T, purple nylon jacket, black jeans.

WENT TO A MARTHA STEWART SHOW TODAY

...on blogging. Perez Hilton was one of the guest bloggers. We all got HP wireless printers and some other swag.

I wanted a car.

BLOG SUPPORT

...I love getting comments and feedback. It's one of the things that makes blogging so much fun. And just connecting with like minded people is pretty amazing. I've linked to some of the mentions I've gotten from my fellow bloggers. Thanks to these people for their generosity of spirit and support.
As Fabio from 'Via Mannelli' says 'Create not destroy could be a good claim for New York today September 11. Bravo'

Create not destroy everyday!

WEDNESDAY. SCENES FROM THE TENTS...

Where there are models, there are hipsters...

Short blazer. Short shorts...

Japanese fashion paparazzi...

The two guys watching the whole thing are 'civilians'

TWO MORE FROM a.a. S/S '09

...the shorts were perfectly cut.

MONDAY. SCENES FROM THE TENTS...

These guys are all about their equipment...

The photographer was Canadian too. And here is Philip again...

This was a very sweet guy from Canada who was here to show his menswear line @ GenArt. His name is Philip Sparks. I think he said he made his suit. It fit well. He pretended not to see me and struck some good poses.

Phones are the new cigarettes. People use them when they feel insecure or anxious (in other words, every waking moment). And I loved that guy's navy stocking cap pushed back.

My hunch is that this guy was there to do hair...

a.a. WHAT I SAW TODAY...

a.a.

Steaming...

Waiting...

The Clothes...

Models...

...Antonio Azzuolo's menswear collection a.a. showed today. I was fortunate enough to get backstage to sketch the guys. I'm not a fashion writer, so I won't do a whole 'review' - but the clothes were beautiful and I had a blast sketching.

Big shout out to talented Antonio for his graciousness and chic menswear!

JOHN LE GREFF CHEMISES

...French shirt ad from the mid-60's. I love this. The French do not mess around with their chemises.

AND NOW, SOMETHING MELLOW

...seen today at Rizzoli on 57th Street. Grey light weight wool jacket, white shirt, white pants, white pocket square, chocolate brown suede shoes. Very Italian, very chic. Love that combination...

COLLABORATION

...that's what it's all about at the end of the day. Photographer Joseph Blue's picture/my illustration of BAS/C'S model Christian.
