I RAN INTO MY FRIEND GREGG THIS MORNING...

and he just got back from a Buddhist retreat in Colorado. Here's the bag he had - it was amazing. Soft brushed cotton, beautiful rich colors. It makes me reconsider my spirituality.

LANVIN. BEST SHOW...

best silhouette, best accessories (those hats!), what looks like best fabrics (cotton sateens, poplins).

This can only happen in Paris (you know that's true). It's kitch at this point, but I've attached some Renoir - feels like the inspiration if you ask me.

I REALIZE PART OF THE CHARM OF WATANABE

is the casting. The guys are like idealized Parsons art students. Love that.

On another note, JW designs the line in collaboration with Levi's, Brooks Brothers etc? That's fucking genius - team up with brands known for their expertise. So it takes a Japanese guy via Paris to get that going? W. T. F!!

And one more thing. The dress socks with shorts is very provocative. Kind of like unexpectedly walking in on someone when they're in the bathroom. 'Er, sorry - I didn't know anyone was here.'

I mean, I never get to see the tops of anyones socks...

MY DAUGHTER HATES THE JEANS I WEAR...

She always asks me how many other people my age wear jeans like mine (Uniqlo  T-000. The leanest jean they carry). I finally thought of an answer - I think Mick Jagger wears jeans cut like mine. So there!

Anyway, maybe I'll try this Junya Watanabe look -  looser but rolled. I've noticed a little of this action on the street. I know I'll get grief for the rolling (why? why do you have to wear your jeans like that?) But I'll give it a shot.

MORE ROYELYN...

with skull scarf.

I WALKED BY CAFE GITANE IN NOLITA

and saw 2 guys in white t shirts - nothing cooler in the summer than a white t and jeans. Here's Royelyn in his...

KINDA LOVING THIS SNEAKER

this summer. And I know I am not alone with that feeling...

HAIR MOVES FORWARD...

Emo style. Nothing new, but it looked good on this guy.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN & CHANEL...

The Burberry stuff reminds me of a hip Christopher Robin. AA Milne + Burberry = Brits. That makes sense. And I say this as a compliment. I loved the clothes and I loved Winnie the Pooh. The original, gentle Pooh. Not the hyped up version now.

There's also a little Chanel going on too. This pic from 1928 (80 years ago, bitches!)

YOU CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE...

when someone puts a neon orange suit on the runway. I went through my daughter's markers to find this color and even an orange highlighter didn't capture it. This from Calvin Klein.

I SEE A LOT OF BOB DYLAN AROUND...

Scruffy, hipster-ish but not in a trucker hat way. Early 60's repeating itself again but always in a slightly different way.

IN MY FANTASY LIFE I'M FRENCH...

and this is me. Wearing a lean suit, one button, high armhole.  Paris 1965. Suit is by Renoma...I am on my way to meet my posse at Cafe de Flores before it was overrun by Americans and Japanese tourists. We drink warm coke with one ice cube.

In my fantasy life I smoke because it looks good but there are no consequences.

IF SOMEONE SAID 'WHAT DO YOU WANT TO WEAR TODAY...'

I would have to go with this from Tomas Maier/Bottega Veneta. Totally crisp and American in an subtle way. The scale of the checks is brilliant. This is what I'd want for today - or at least until I see what Junya Watanabe is up to!

THIS IS ROYELYN...

Just moved to NYC 3 weeks ago. Straw pork pie, plaid shirt rolled over the blazer sleeves, all pushed up a la Studio 54. Says he wants a blazer with cap sleeves, which took me a moment to visualize, then it made perfect sense.

STARBUCKS WAS LIKE FORT DIX THIS MORNING...

Er, in the sense that there were a lot of guys with military things going on. OD cargo shorts (still!) with a pale blue shirt and aviators (nice), military-ish jacket (this guy comes in every morning and avoids all eye contact - he's that hot). And then there's the one with cargo shorts and a linen tweed blazer, shirt and tie (I get such a Ralph Lauren sales vibe).

WHITE SHIRTS, JEANS...

The thing about this look - shaped oxford shirts and skinny jeans - is that the straight dudes are into it. Didn't see that coming. They like to show some ass and a little skin just like everyone else does.

MADRAS, WHITE PANTS, TOPSIDERS

Ok. This one thought he was in Nantucket - rolled up pants, washed madras, topsiders. It wasn't Nantucket - it was Greenwich and Perry. But the madras, all bleeded blues and purples was beautiful, so I have to give credit where credit's due.

ONE OF MY SHIRTS...

I mean like 'I designed this shirt and had it made.' I found a beautiful vintage chambray workshirt and the details were so perfect. The bar tacking, contrast white stitching...love stuff like that. Then I had it made in this gorgeous Italian linen so it's taking something so basic and making it luxe in the fabric and the cut.

BLUE OXFORD SHIRT, CREAM TRIM...

Beautiful cut, and the trim accentuated the great fit of the shirt.

NAVY SHORTS, HAT...

This one really worked on his look.  The newsboy cap and shorts were the exact same shade of navy blue. Then the pale tan sweater over a white T. He kind of preened by the window of Starbucks - very pleased with the outfit.
Is think because he was slight, and Asian - the colors and proportions really worked, so props to him.

CHECKS, COWBOY YOKE, SHORT SLEEVES...

Who ever designed this shirt is a crack head.  This shirt has a lot going on; a yoke, epaulettes , sleeve cuffs, and in a brown/white check no less. But in a funny way it worked, so we'll move on.

SKINNY LINE...That says it all.

NUMBERS...

Numbered jerseys, faded, vintage...2 guys came in to Starbucks within a 10 minute period so I thought it was something of a mini-trend. This look either never goes away, and the jeans change so it looks different, or it does disappear as a trend and then resurface every 3 years. Not sure which, and it really doesn't matter.

CARDIGAN, CUT OFFS, WHITE V NECK T...

At Starbucks on Greenwich Ave and Perry June 9...Cardigan, khaki cut offs, white V neck T on his BlackBerry - looked cool. Something about the gesture of holding a BlackBerry or iPhone that I think is very cool. Like an update of how I thought adults looked cool holding a cigarette when I was a kid.
And I thought the mix of the cardigan, shorts and white T was great. Being around 25 doesn't hurt either...

HATS, SUNGLASSES...

I guess if there was one 'look' for the hipsters this summer - this would be it. Porkpies tilted back, sunglasses. Got that kind of Ska, Rat Pack, rakish thing, which every generation of 24 year olds seem to gravitate to. I think it has a lot to do with getting laid...

OXFORD SHIRTS, JEANS

Re proportioned simple oxford shirts and jeans look cool...

AFRO...

Saw this guy in Union Square Park with a great Michael Jackson 'fro circa early 70's. I'm always a sucker for a good afro. Maybe it's just nostalgia...but I think they're pretty awesome and a nice change from the buzz look.
